These fun, hands-on experiments are a great way to encourage exploration, discovery, and an interest in chemistry.
Kitchen chemistry stirs up some excitement

Here’s a safe, exciting way to explore the science behind cooking. Just slip in the Kitchen Chemistry CD-ROM and let the computer guide you through 10 hands-on experiments. You’ll have a blast using common household items to make invisible ink, grow salt crystals, create flowing volcanic “lava” and more.

  • Paper Chromatography
  • Ship to Submarine
  • Colored Bubble Films
  • Growing Salt Crystals
  • Acids and Alkalis

I concur with the need for a printed instruction booklet. The experiments are VERY messy but very engaging. I think we had about a hundred volcanic eruptions at my house this week.

A paper manual would be VERY helpful...we did use the laptop in the kitchen, but due to the messy nature of the projects I would have MUCH preferred that my son had a paper to refer to rather than going back to the computer. Also note that the "provided" materials as listed in the experiments don't always match what actually came in the box. And for the coin cleaning experiment requires adding 6 tablespoons of vinegar to a beaker, but none of the beakers are big enough to hold the vinegar plus salt. The ship to submarine experiment either doesn't work or is lacking in instructions. Both my husband and I are college graduates and tried our best to follow the directions but could not get the foam piece to sink. : (
