Although Carnivorous Plants are fascinating to raise and watch, they are a little trickier to germinate from seed than other plants. Improper moisture, temperature, humidity, and light can adversely affect the outcome. While we tried to make everything as easy and straightforward as possible when we introduced the item in 2004, we saw that there was still room for improvement. In late 2007, we greatly improved the process by cutting the germination time in half and eliminating the need to put the entire terrarium in the refrigerator! We did this by switching to a two seed pack system that was developed in a collaborative effort with our seed breeders. We are sure that you will be thrilled with the result. We also switched to a new full color format for our instructions to more clearly illustrate what you should do when and what you should expect. This product was a big disappointment. The excitement dies quickly because the seeds have to be refrigerated for months before they can be planted. After planting it takes several weeks for any sign of growth. Unlike some of the other reviewers, we did get some growth, but many of the seedlings died. Now, a year later, we have one tiny plant to show for all the work and waiting. I recommend buying carnivorous plants instead.

Our excitement about this product is also starting to die. We followed all the directions in the fridge and only bottled water. It has been 3 months for us and no sign at all of plant growth.

I did not have luck w/ 1st one, and have one in fidge now. I have also tried many othe poducts from same company, have a great list of different "dome creations". My personal opinion is, all plants roots need air from bottom. Like sensory dome........after a while,the plants have to be taken out, also because of how big they get, as well. Venus Fly traps are easy to grow fom seed, its after care thats the problem.I specialize in Horticulture, so I would recommend Dunecraft, but the plants must be removed after a while. check out the graveyard one!

We were really disappointed. After 7 1/2 months there was no sign of growth. We were careful to keep the atmosphere humid, in sunlight, etc. We following the directions carefully but nothing grew. The kids didn't give up hope but I did. They sell carnivorous plants at Home Depot and I admit to buying a few carnivorous plants and putting them in the plastic dome. I hope we just got a bad batch of seeds and everyone else finds success. Personally I wouldn't recommend it.

We are still in the 'stratification' stage so I don't know if they will grow. It was still fun to get it ready.

Ok.. This is a great idea like the previous reviewer said. HOWEVER be prepared for PATIENCE. I gave this to my daughter as a gift. She has ALWAYS wanted this. Be forewared however, that in order to plant you must first moisten the soil, then use bottled water ONLY. Then scatter your teensey weensey seeds that are nearly microscopic onto the surface of the soil. After that - you must place the entire plastic container into the FRIDGE for 8 weeks. (yes EIGHT weeks). After that, THEN you can start caring for it and hoping the seeds will sprout. They do warn that it can take up to SIX MONTHS to see any growth. It's a HUGE process and hope that it will be rewarding in the end.

I loved the idea of this product and we thought we did everything as the instructions said, but not one single plant grew. It has now been three months since we planted them and nothing. What a disappointment.

My son was so excited to get this gift. We are all still waiting to see if the plants will actually grow. They are in the fridge right now.
