Did you know that over 2 million people visit the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. each year? The National Zoo’s research includes reproductive biology, conservation biology, biodiversity monitoring, veterinary medicine, nutrition, behavior, ecology, and bird migration. It was one of the first zoos to set up a science research program; today the Smithsonian research team studies animals in the wild as well as at the zoo.

Explore Museums, Aquariums and Zoos on DVD Before You Go
Follow two young hosts, as they explore famous zoos from a kid's eye view. Go behind the scenes and take part in interactive experiences open only to special visitors like you.
Matt and Brittney go to the National Zoo in Washington DC. Hands-on experiences include learning how to care for pandas and elephants, handling venomous snakes and finding out why poison dart frogs are critical to their environment. They learn what it takes to be an animal keeper at a zoo.
At the St. Louis Zoo the children learn about the great apes and efforts to save orangutans in the wild. They learn about caring pengiuns, feed some laurakeets and chill with some fun-loving otters. Brittney participates in a Sea Lion show and they both help set some butterflies free.
At the Ft. Worth Zoo, Matt and Brittney hang around with the orangutans and watch an elephant painting session. They feed a wide variety of birds and pet some friendly giraffes. They participate in a bird of prey training session and learn about otters and bears.
Each DVD is 88 minutes.
